soloSicily review: Mondello, you can’t go there just once in your life

A marvellous stay in a Sicilian villa on the seaside

We are two newly wed couples. We met each other on our honeymoons and had such a good time that we wanted to have another holiday all together, this time in beautiful Palermo.

We decided on villa Corisia in Mondello which is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places possible to wake up every morning. In Mondello we were on the seaside, but it was so close to many important landmarks and interest points (Palermo, Cefalù and Monreale). And the villa itself! It left us speechless. The quiet garden, the marvellous pool, it is a truly charming villa. And, it is really the absolute perfect place to stay if you want a seaside vacation experience as well as the opportunity to enjoy Palermo’s city centre.

We spent many days in Palermo, but our evenings we spent in Mondello’s fabulous seafood restaurants. We especially recommend the restaurant “Le Antiche Mura” which is quite close to the villa. Order the “polpette di tonno al sugo”, tuna “meatballs”, they are delicious! Check out the photos to see the villa and garden, it is really a dream holiday place to stay. www.solosicily.com/sp50_romantic-villas-in-sicily/sc185_corisia.aspx

Oh! And towards the end of our trip, some friends arrived in Sicily as well! They had booked villa Tanguera, another luxurious villa near where we were staying in Mondello, but closer to Palermo, about 10 minutes. On the second to last day of our trip, they invited us over and we had such a lovely evening with them, sipping wine on villa Tanguera’s patio with jacuzzi.  www.solosicily.com/sp50_romantic-villas-in-sicily/sc154_tanguera.aspx

soloSicily reviews: Zingaro Nature Reserve & Casa Blu

soloSicily reviews from a happy customer: a joyful summer painted blue

With a good pair of walking shoes, at least three litres of water and lots of sunscreen you are prepared to discover the delights of the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve.
As you embark on your journey, small unpaved paths lead your car to the entrance of the nature reserve that extends into the peninsula of San Vito lo Capo and faces the blue Tyrrhenian Sea  between the cities Castellammare del Golfo and Trapani.
In the nature reserve you will delightfully encounter a corner of paradise waiting to be experienced by all 5 of your senses. The reserve is quite windy, windy enough to blow the cap off your head, but the breeze is a welcome companion during the summer months.
As you make your way through the reserve from the parking area, you will follow a footpath to the Farming Museum where the complete grain cycle is represented.  As you continue down the path you can also visit the Naturalist Museum and the Environmental Education Centre. As you continue your journey through the reserve, it is not important if you take the wrong path, you have the sun as your guide to lead you to the “Stone Forest,” in the direction of Scopello. On your way, let yourself indulge in a swim in the crystal clear water where the sky and sea unite in harmony and the perfumes of  sea and  land exhilarate your senses.
Continuing up, climbing to the top of the rolling hills you will overlook the small village of Scopello where you can find the remarkable villa Casa Blu, an elegant home available for rent exclusively by  www.solosicily.com.
This peaceful villa is characterized by antique Sicilian ceramics and a soft white and blue motif, from the dish-ware to the couches. As a couple or as a family, you would be hard-pressed to find a more perfect place to enjoy a Sicilian holiday.
If you have the desire for long conversations that last late into the night or to enjoy an afternoon of barbecuing and music, you will find Casa Blu’s wonderful garden, in the presence of a century-old carob tree overlooking the shining sea, to be the perfect setting.
On Casa Blu’s patio, you will find a small pool (6 x 8 meters) with a breathtaking view, take a look for yourself: http://www.solosicily.com/villas-in-sicily/sc144_casa-blu.aspx
And your adventure has only begun! Tomorrow Scopello’s tuna fishery, Guidaloca beach, the fishing villages of Marsala and Mazzara and the medieval hill top village of Erice are all waiting for you. And the day after that, you still have the Aegadian Islands, the island of Mozia and of course the cities of Trapani and Palermo to visit before returning to your peacful home surrounded by blue, Casa Blue.
